A bit about one popular escapist idea

Many people, especially those who tend to think about what’s happening around them, dislike the state. The reasons for this are many and varied, but the reason is one — the state is a hypermonopoly in providing a number of services. Moreover, the range of these “services” keeps expanding on its own initiative. A modern person simply has nowhere to turn: wherever he goes, wherever he lives — he will have to deal with one state or another. To dislike the state, after all, the statistics from this book1 are enough. In the 20th century, 61 million people died in wars. 87 million were killed by their own states. Only 8.5 million died from killings not “authorized” by the state. Let us add that wars, too, are organized by states.

Many states consider a person their property. In Ukraine, for example, there is no way to renounce Ukrainian citizenship. You cannot simply walk away from it. You can only change citizenship — that is, become the property of another state.
