We don’t trust anyone. We don’t trust each other, we don’t trust the state, we don’t trust banks, we don’t trust experts. When a term deposit yields 15-20% per annum, and someone nearby offers much more, explaining that the bank is simply profiting from you, and therefore the offered super-interest is quite real, then our people may bite. They have experienced bank scandals throughout Ukraine’s years of independence — or rather, to put it plainly, they have no reason to trust banks. They understand they might get burned in MMM, but just as well they might get burned with banks.
